Nerf Zombie Strike Crossfire Bow: Review

So, after some eagle eyed fans spotted a few of the zombie strike range popping up on ebay uk over the last week, I decided to take a punt and buy one of the crossfire bows. I was not disappointed...

Sometimes, Christmas comes at new year :)

MEGA Magnus UK Release Date

Finally, official news on the MEGA Magnus' appearance in the UK.

Ever since we first learned about the NERF MEGA Magnus, I have been anxious to find out whether this blaster would hit 'Old Blighty'. I recently aquired one from Singapore and I have to say, it is excellent.

But now it turns out, if I had been a bit more patient I could have saved myself a fair bit of money.

NERF Vortex Revonix360 - Review

Or: 'He ain't heavy... he my blaster!' *Harmonica solo*

We all have different opinions about things and some people have opinions which to many, go totally against the norm. A perfect example of this is my Father, who, as a die hard fan of Crystal Palace FC, is convinced that they are a better team than Manchester United. This is not the truth, (sadly, "Come on you Eagles!!") it's just his opinion. My point is, my 'against the norm' opinion is: I am a huge fan of the Vortex series. Before you set fire to anything with my name on it, please hear me out...

NERF: The Ultimate Blaster Book - Review

I don't really read much apart from the odd instruction manual. Even then (like all men) I only do it as a last resort, when I've messed things up or can't figure out where part 'A' goes. But when I heard news that a book about my favourite brand was to be released, I grew quite excited.

Recently, I was contacted the publishers for 'The Ultimate NERF Blaster Book' who offered me the opportunity to review the book, ahead of it's release.

Below is my review of 'NERF: The Ultimate Blaster Book' written by Nathaniel Marunas.

MEGA Centurion UK Release Party

Cast your minds back to September. Whilst the rest of the world were already enjoying their MEGA Centurions, nerfers in the UK (and Europe, among others) could only look on with envious eyes as our international cousins were playing with their new blasters. Most didn't really like the Centurion, but that's beside the point.

We would have to wait until 1st October for the Centurion and there was no sign of any accidental pre-releases like there was for the Rapidstrike.

Fortunately for me, UK Nerf was invited to the release party the week before the official launch... Unfortunately for me, I was away with work that week so I wouldn't be able to attend. As gutted as I was, I knew it wouldn't be a huge loss. I would have to find someone to go in my stead. I needed someone tall, strong, courageous, with an investigative mind and a sharp wit. I needed someone who wasn't afraid to ask the hard hitting questions and would tenaciously pursue an answer like a dog after a rabbit.

Launch Party Invitation

What I got was an awesome nerfer who wasn't afraid to shoot at powerful business men in the face and roll around on the floor of a fancy London restaurant in full tactical gear. What I got was Blame_Stosh.

Elite Tagger Darts?

These Baidu pics popped up on the NERF Reddit earlier. At first I was really excited as they appeared to be Elite tagger darts.

As it turns out they are one Baidu users attempt at improving range.

Apparently, it works.

BAGW - Britnerf Annual General War

As the British Nerfing community grows through the Britnerf forum, I am happy to say that organised wars are becoming bigger and more common. The following is a report from the 1st Britnerf Annual General War (BAGW) which was held in Greenwich Park, London on 14th September 2013.

BAGW '13 Attendees

Now nearly a month on, with all the aches and bruises healed, I have finally had the chance to write a report on the day. I hope you enjoy reading.

Blastersmiths UK MkIII Drop-leg Holster - Review

Many, many months ago, I was given the pleasure of receiving a pre-production model of Blastersmith UK Ltd's shiny new MkIII Drop-leg holster. Following the success of it's elder brother, the MkII which was designed for the Maverick/Strongarm, the MkIII is designed to keep your clip fed blasters handy for when things go south.

NERF MEGA Centurion - UK Release

Following the big release party last night (Blame_Stosh's report coming soon), Hasbro UK have sent out a press release for the NERF MEGA Centurion.

There isn't much new here but it does at least confirm the blasters ranges.

Nerf MEGA Magnus - First Look

Rumours of the second blaster in the MEGA series have been floating around the Internet for a while now. Then, earlier this month a vague listing appeared on Amazon which confirmed that the 'MEGA Magnus' was a pistol with a built in magazine, much like the Speedload 6.

Thanks to the guys over at dartblaster.de, we now have our first look at the MEGA Magnus.

It's pretty.

Lanard Huntsman 50 - the big hitter out of nowhere!

Recently, several british nerfers (including myself) were tipped off to a sighting of new dart blasters being stocked in B&M bargains:

Not exactly a name synonymous with the phrase 'decent produce'.

So a little digging around the dark corners of the internets, I discovered that the range in question was in fact a brand new range from Lanard, which I'll be looking at in a future post. However today, we'll be looking at one blaster in particular - The Huntsman 50.

Rumor: NERF Robots?

I know what you're thinking... "Wouldn't it be great if Hasbro released a full size NERF battlesuit?"

We'll, I'm excited to tell you... It's not that.

Nerf Elite Barrel Break Review: Why its Great.

"Shot guns? What like guns that fire shot?"
"Oh you must be the brains of the operation! Yes, guns that fire shot."

Vinnie Jones in 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels'

The Barrel break has been around for ages, I'm fully aware of this but with NERF running headlong into 'Mega' blasters and grabbing girls by the ponytail, it is far too easy to leave great blasters on the 'Yesterday's News' pile when they still have much to offer. This is one of those reviews. After you read this review. Go and play the PC classic 'Doom II' immediately. If, for some amazing reason you where just playing Doom II then stopped to read this review. Please read it, then go back to playing. For those who dont know what Im talking about. Shame on you. Look it up, download it and play it, you'll thank me.

Rebelle Heartbreaker Bow - Review

I recently saw the new NERF Rebelle Heartbreaker Bow at Hasbro's Christmas in July event last month. It's a nice looking thing but I was a little underwhelmed with it's performance. I was in the middle of writing a review of it when Seiryuu over on the Britnerf forum managed to get his hands on one early from Argos.

His review is pretty good and he also had the chance to open it up and include some internal pics. Find out what Seiryuu thinks after the jump.

Hasbro Christmas Party, and Updates

It's been a while, but then I've been busy (and ill).

A couple of weeks ago, I went to Hasbro's 'Christmas in July' event in London. This event was a chance for the press (and me) to have a look at all of the wonderful goodies that Hasbro would be releasing in the run up to Christmas. This would obviously include NERF stuff so naturally I was keen to attend.

NERF Mission App - Review

NERF 'Mission App' iPhone Cradle

We've been hearing about NERF making it's way to the smart phone for a while now. We have already seen the iPhone cradle that is designed to attach to the tactical rail but we have heard nothing of the app that has been developed to support it... Until now!

Dr Strange-Nerf or: How I Stopped Worrying and Learned To Love the LARP

A while ago I was asked to help write a review for some Nerf LARP organisations. This was no small task as I have little to no knowledge of what Nerf LARP is all about. Knowing that others must feel the same, I wrote this instead. It is a review of the LARP group, 'Big Damn Heroes', but it is also an article for those who want to try Nerf LARP, but do not know where to begin. Enjoy!

Upcoming Zombie Strike Range - Pics included!

So, the rumours have been flying around recently regarding a new, upcoming line due to hits our stores in 2014 which has been greatly received. Usually with the response of 'HOLYDOGCOWZOMBIEHORDE BATMAN!'. However, now that more information about the range has been released, I have my doubts now...

To the pictures!

Nerf Rebelle - On the Highstreet

Whilst on his travels, MerryUnBirthday spotted both the 'Pink Crush' and the 'Guardian Crossbow' on the shelves in The Entertainer.

Priced at £8 and £25 respectively, this is the first time these blasters have been spotted in stores. I received my Guardian Crossbow through the post a couple of days ago.

Rebelle Guardian Crossbow - Review

After recently purchasing a Rebelle Guardian Crossbow, I found it a difficult blaster to review. Don't get me wrong, I like it, I just cant find the words to describe the way it makes me feel.

What I needed was a representative of the lines target demographic. What I needed was a girl. Then I remembered that my wife is such a creature. She seemed genuinely excited by the blaster so without further ado, I hand you over to Mrs. UKNerfWar for a woman's perspective on the Nerf Rebelle Guardian Crossbow.

Nerf Elite Rapidstrike CS-18 - UK Release Date

Official news from Hasbro finally gives us a release date for what is (for me at least) the most exciting blaster to be released this year,

My sources at Hasbro confirm that the Rapidstrike will hit the shelves from 1st August so start saving your pennies now, this thing is going to be epic.

I can't say when the Rapidstrike will be available in other territories but we can assume that it will be around the same time, if not before in some areas.

I am totally stoked about this blaster. As I have said all along, it is much more my style than the MEGA Centurion. What are your thoughts?

Elite Pinpoint Sight iPetition

Like many of you, I have recently been frustrated by the exclusivity of what is possibly my favourite Nerf accessory.

Fortunately for us, the chaps over at Bay Area Nerf have decided to try and do something about it.

Nerf MEGA Centurion - Finally, a Chance to Look Inside?

Rogue over at Nerf Revolution has managed to get his hands on a MEGA Centurion, surprisingly sent to him by Hasbro themselves!

Hasbro have always had a good relationship with NRev and it's good to see that Rogue is still nerfing, even after he's been quiet for a while. Good to see your still with us buddy.

For now he has released an unboxing video but you can be sure that both a firing demo and an internals video will be posted soon.

Subscribe to Rogue's channel if you want to see more or check out Nerf Revolution for more info.

New Range? - Nerf Zombie Strike

Later this year, Hasbro will be releasing the brand new Rebelle line of blasters designed for girls. If this is news to you, where have you been?

Nerf Rebelle Wildshot

Whilst I think this new range is a brilliant thing in terms of both blaster styling, and political correctness alike, what do us red blooded, Y chromosomal gents get?

The answer? What do we all love more than nerf?

Bacon?

No.
Zombies!

New Centurion info - Including a picture!

Big thanks to Urbantaggers for bringing this new photo to our attention. From first glances this picture will confirm the sheer SIZE of this blaster, not too mention the fact that it is one piece - not like the Longstrike or Longshot. It's also nice to see that the rail is flush to the rest of the blaster, allowing for a better chance of a scope working on this blaster. The new darts also look really cool, and it'll be interesting to see if conversion to standard darts will be possible without major modification. The only thing that is slightly off (for me) is the distance from trigger and magazine, but I'll sure that can be solved easily *insert evil grin here*.

Either way, I (and probably UKNerfWar) will be very happy when our pre-ordered blasters become available!

Tuesday 7 May 2013

I went on the Internet, and I found this...

Firstly, allow me to introduce myself. My name is BritNerfMogul, or at least it is when I'm on the internet talking about Nerf. I been 'nerfing' for just under a decade, and have extensive knowledge of Nerf blasters and modifying them, going so far as to running my own company, Higson Armouries. Recently I became involved in a new LARP event in my local area. The game is known as Dark Tempus, and runs as a Post Apocalypse game play. Set out over 2 days starting on Friday evening and finishing on Sunday afternoon, players were left to roam free, fight off zombie hordes, and try to start a new world in the midsts of staff trying to create distractions, thefts and all out spanner-in-the-works escapades.

New Author - Welcome BritNerfMogul

As much fun as blogging about your hobby is, it can be hard work. I don't mean to say that sitting watching Spaced whilst typing is particularly taxing, but going out, meeting people and finding stories to write about can be.

Luckily for me, there's a new cop in town...

The Mogul must be a Pegg fan.

A New Look

The website elves we have working for us here at UK Nerf have been working overtime on the blog to help us freshen it up a little.

We're happy with it for now but it's very much 'work in progress'.

Until we're finished we'll keep prodding the elves with sharp things and bribing them with cookies to try and get the most out of them. Keep an eye out for the changes as they come.

No elves were harmed in the making of this website but a couple of fairies were maimed at a party last week. We're not really too sure what happened but the police were called and a full investigation has been launched. We will not stop until we find out what happened... or lunch, whichever is sooner. Our thoughts are with the families of the fairies to whom we have sent the mutilated remains and our condolences.

LARP Aid 2013

LARP Aid is a three day charity event and for the last 10 years, these guys have been raising money through the LARP community and donating the proceeds to charity. This year’s event was only the 3rd one held in Kent and was in honour of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance. This is a charity that is close to my heart so I was keen to go along, check it out and help in any way that I could.

Nerf Elite Rapidstrike CS-18 - More Pics and Firing Video

I know UK Nerf has been more than a little laxed with regards to the wild speculation and rumour mongering over the new Elite Rapidstrike CS-18. It's not that I don't care. Far from it. I do love feeding the rumour mill.

The simple fact is that work has kept me away from Nerf for the last couple of months. Just my luck that all of the juicy gossip has surfaced whilst I've been away.

So, back to what I love most... Nerf, new stuff and speculation.

Nerf Elite Rapidstrike CS-18 and Mega Centurion Release Dates?

If you have already given us a like on our Facebook Page, you'll already know that there was a bit of excitement on eBay.co.uk the other night.

A keen eyed member of the BritNerf Forum spotted listings for both the Elite Rapidstrike CS-18 and Mega Centurion on ebay.co.uk. Naturally I jumped on it and bought one of each!

The next morning, I received a phone call from the seller saying that the items were only meant to be added to their inventory and weren't actually supposed to be listed. I was a little disappointed, but deep down I knew it was too good to be true.

However, the lovely chap on the phone kindly offered me a great deal. To apologise for the mishap, he offered me 50% off the bill when stock becomes available... on 22nd May.

Could this be an 'official' release date for both of these blasters?

Initially I was dubious. I know that often, large retailers get stock well in advance of the release date. Although I should receive mine at this time, I doubted that the official release date would be this early in the year.

But then I stumbled upon this.

Whilst researching the new blasters, I stumbled upon TEF.com. They list the Mega Centurion on their site. Unfortunately the page doesn't give us any more information on the blaster but it does list the release date. "Coming soon to MAY!"

So now that's two sources indicating May as a release date for both the Mega Centurion and the Elite Rapidstrike. Starting to sound interesting isn't it? It does raise one question though...

What do we have to look forward to on 9/9/13?

Quest Nerf Arena - UK Nerf at the Grand Opening

As you all know, the Nerf Combat Arena at Quest, Merry Hill officially opened last Saturday (6th April 2013).

Unfortunately my little boy was very ill that day so my plans to travel up north had to be put on hold. Luckily for me, one of the wonderful chaps from the BritNerf community was able to attend and write this fantastic report for me.

So, without any further ado, I hand you over to TrueFiction, UK Nerf's honorary Dudley correspondent, and his report from the grand opening of the worlds first Nerf Combat Arena.

Name that Tune. (hint, its the same as the last one.)

Nerf Vortex Diatron - Review or, 'Double Whammy!' -)DOUBLE WHAMMY(-

"I am the Law!"

Why yes. I am a huge comic book fan. Thank you for asking.

My all time favourite is too hard for me to name on a single blog post. I have to say that 2000AD's Judge Dredd is a huge contender for number one.
Why? because its so different from any other comic of the time. Gritty, violent and yet somehow humorous in places. It had me hooked from the very first time I found a few copies in an old second hand stall in Woolwich Arsenal market (which I foolishly threw away a few years later).
The first move was awful. The latest movie is amazing. But both got one thing right. the weaponry, the Judges' iconic 'Lawgivers'

I wanted one then, and I want one now. Sadly the closest I can find (visually anyway) is the new Nerf Vortex Diatron. And I'm not complaining.

Blastersmiths UK - Dropleg Holster Review

I've been banging on about Blastersmiths UK Ltd for a while now. To say I'm excited about them and what they do is a bit of an understatement.

So when they sent me one of their Dropleg Holsters for review I was shaking with excitement. My days of making holsters out of gaffer tape were long gone.

Nerf Rebelle - UK Pricing and Release Dates

Pocket Esq. over at Urban Taggers has done it again!

He has put his feelers out yet again and this time he has uncovered an article on the Toy News website that reveals the UK release dates and prices of the Nerf Rebelle line. In summary, we will start to see the products arrive in the Autumn. The prices will be as follows.

Heartbreaker Bow - £19.99

Crossbow - £24.99
Sneak Attack Blasters (two pack) - £9.99
Pink Crush Mini Crossbow - £7.99
12 Dart Pack - £3.99
Accessory Bag (includes 10 darts) - £12.99

Interestingly, no mention of the Wildshot here. For me, this hammer action revolver was one of the highlights of the range. Does this mean that UK Nerfers won't get a chance to play with one?

Watch this space.

LARP Aid - Fighting for a Good Cause

Three months ago I had just discovered how popular LARP was in the UK. Ever since I wrote this article, I have explored the world of LARP and discovered that they are an amazing bunch. I have been blown away by the strength and diversity of the UK's LARP communities, especially when they all come together to do something truly amazing.

There has been a lot of hype recently regarding the new Nerf arenas due to be popping up around the UK this year. The first of which is at the 'Quest' centre at Westfield's Merry Hill in Dudley.

Well, to celebrate the launch of the world's first Nerf Combat Arena, the Quest team are looking for the UK's biggest Nerf fan to win some fantastic prizes.

Nerf Elite Alpha Trooper CS-12- Update

Like many of you, I have been eagerly awaiting the release of the Nerf Elite Alpha Trooper CS-12 ever since we learned of it's existence.

But when the advertised release date of March 1st came and went, my heart dropped at the thought of having to wait even longer. I have recently been travelling around the UK with work and took the opportunity to visit as many Argos stores as I could. I have since been to Newcastle, Sheffield, Birmingham, Glasgow, Dublin, Belfast, Nottingham , Liverpool and London but to no avail. 15 stores in total and not a whisper of the Elite version of my favourite blaster.

After asking the good people of Argos via their Facebook page, I received this exciting response:

"I have checked this for you and further stock is due on 8th April, please check our website on or around this date for up to date information".

So there you have it folks. Not long now!

Nerf Elite Rapidstrike CS-18

Disclaimer: The information supplied here is purely speculative, based on information gathered from public sources such as from shopping websites that have put up pages for the Rapidstrike.

An image and some information about an upcoming Nerf blaster has been leaked. It's called the Nerf Elite Rapidstrike CS-18, and it is Hasbro's new fully automatic, large, "high end" Nerf blaster. It could be said that it is a Stampede replacement.
Here's what we know about the Rapidstrike:
  • Fully automatic, possibly with semi-auto or burst fire modes as well.
  • Fires up to 3.6 darts per second - much faster than a stock Stampede.
  • The firing mechanism uses flywheels, and an electric dart pusher (compare the trigger width to that of a Stryfe or Rayven!)
  • Uses 4 C-type batteries.
  • Significantly lighter than the Stampede. One source (broken on HvZ forums) claims 75% lighter, making it about 0.8kg.
  • Strap loops/rings! The 3 (below handle, above handle, and by the sight on the front) look fantastic.
  • Similar clip release system as the Stryfe.
  • Come with only one 18-dart clear clip.
  • Adjustable stock.
  • Cost approximately £40.
Overall this thing looks great, as far as I can tell. There's currently no known release date for the blaster, but I'd assume it will be this year. I will keep this post updated if I come across any new information.

Elite Alpha Trooper released, sort of!

Argos officially released the Elite Alpha Trooper yesterday, although currently has as far as I can tell, no stock of it! This is because of a combination of high demand, and distribution issues. You should be able to order online for home delivery on the 30th March. Update: Rumour has it that many stores won't get any stock in until the 6th April. [Source]

I'm Not Dead, Just Busy

As much as I hate making personal posts, I thought I would explain a my absence.

Some of you may have noticed a distinct lull in posts from me recently. There has been lots of exciting news in the nerf world but unfortunately I have been too busy to cover it.

Whilst I love nerf, unfortunately it doesn't pay the bills. For that I have to go away on tour for extended periods of time.

Yes, by day I am a pyrotechnician, supplying special effects for concerts and the like all around the world. I am currently out supporting 'Girls Aloud' for their new tour which will whisk me around the UK and Ireland for the next 5 weeks.

I will try to keep my hand in as much as I can but working 18 hour days and sleeping in a tour buss all night doesn't leave a lot of room for hobbies. Hopefully BurntCustard and MerryUnBirthday will be able to keep you entertained whilst I'm away blowing stuff up.

Nerf Blazin' Bow and Revonix360 Videos

The guys over at The Toy Spy have posted a video of the new Nerf blasters, released at the 2013 New York Toy Fair.

Both the Blazin' Bow and the Vortex Revonix360 look awesome. Check them out.

I must say, I'm really liking the new look to the Vortex range. Very nice.

Nerf Rebelle - Blasters for Girls

What's this? You go away for a couple of days, come back and your inbox is full of news.

It turns out that there was recently a conference between Hasbro Executives and a group of investors discussing this years new releases. The conference was held via webcast on 8th February from the New York Toy Fair.

New Nerf Blasters - Mega Blazin' Bow and Vortex Revonix360

Orange Mod Works - Immortal Kit Review

I received my Immortal kit a while ago, but what with work commitments and a 2 year old boy to look after, I haven't had the time to do anything with it. Luckily for me, my good friend Nerfshack has posted this review on the Britnerf forum and he has kindly let me post it here.

The 2013 UK Toy Fair - Nerf Licenced Products

This year, we will be seeing a lot of nerf products hitting the shelves, and not just from Hasbro.

There are a lot of other companies that will be releasing products under the nerf brand due to licencing agreements. We've all seen some of these products before (the nerf night vision goggles, released back in 2011 to name but one), but there are some new gadgets on the way.

News from Hasbro. Some Good, Some Bad.

Speaking to the guys at Hasbro, we managed to gleam some good information. My Last Dart has already given us the answers to many of the questions posed by the NIC, (big thanks for that fella) but there were a couple of others I wanted to pose.

2013 Dart Tag Stinger - Review

With all of the buzz going on around the new 2013 Elite blasters, it can be easy to forget the other ranges of blasters that Hasbro produce under the Nerf brand. The Dart Tag line has largely been overshaddowed in the last couple of years by the release of the Elite range and there hasn't been a new Dart Tag blaster since the Snapfire 8 was released in 2012.

I managed to get my hands on the newest member to the Dart Tag family, The Dart Tag Target Tag set.

The 2013 UK Toy Fair - Zing Toys

Other companies cannot compete with Nerf and so it would seem that they are going in a completely different direction. It's easy to forget that 'Its Nerf or Nothin!' is a company slogan. Not words to live by. If you do look elsewhere, you may find many pleasant surprises.

The 2013 UK Toy Fair

Yesterday was a busy day for the UK Nerf team as we met up with some friends and took on the UK Toy Fair at Olympia. Hundreds of toy manufacturers were there showing off the exciting new releases that are poised to hit the shelves this year.

Elite Alpha Trooper - It's Real!

Spotted in the new Spring/Summer copy of the 'Argos' catalogue by one of our eagle eyed followers, the Elite Alpha Trooper will be available from March.

Personally, I'm very excited about this one. The Alpha Trooper was one of my favourite blasters and now we can expect one with Elite Ranges.

I've also noticed a new Dart Tag blaster in the catalogue as well. The Dart Tag Stinger appears to be similar to the old Stimger from 1996?

I don't know anything more than this one picture but it looks to be a single shot blaster very similar to the original.

Very cool!

The Toy Fair - 4 Days to Go

The 2013 Toy Fair is fast approaching and the UK Nerf team will be covering the action.

Not only will we be looking out for any new releases for 2013, but we will also be talking to Hasbro about the Nerf line. We are going to try to get answers to few of the rumours that have been circulating over the years, as well as try to find out what Hasbro has in store for the future. If there is any exciting news, you'll read it here,

We have also set up a meeting with a secret mystery guest. I'm not going to give too much away but his company will be bringing us some amazing nerf related products this year

Stay tuned, Stay informed.
